Description

 

This is a faithful reproduction of the sword in the Royal Armoury in Madrid.

History:

"Spanish military leader (b. Regensburg, Germany, 1545). The natural son of Charles V, he served as a military leader under his half-brother Philip II of Spain. He ended Turkish power in the Mediterranean in supreme command of the fleet of the Holy League formed by Spain, Venice and the Papacy against the Turks (1570). He insisted on searching out and sinking the Turkish fleet, which he achieved at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571."

The hilt is distinctly Spanish with Arabic decoration.

The blade is wide and flat, with a blunt point and shallow fuller.
